Families across Staffordshire are invited to don their walking boots this bank holiday (Monday 4 May) take a peaceful walk through the parkland of Chillington Estate which is not normally accessible to the public.

Walkers will be able to choose from two beautiful routes to enjoy at their own pace between 10am and 4pm. There will be a 5km route and a slightly shorter 3km route and maps of both routes will be available on the day to pick up from The Stables.

The routes will take walkers through the stunning grounds and parklands of Chillington Estate, which were designed by acclaimed landscape architect Lancelot 'Capability' Brown in the 1760s. The landscape is home to birds and wildlife, so walkers are encouraged to bring their binoculars.

Both routes begin and end at The Stables where there will be a pop-up café for hungry walkers serving hot drinks and homemade cakes.

Tessa Giffard, custodian of Chillington Hall, said:

“We’re so excited to welcome people to take a stroll through the walking routes this bank holiday Monday. Spring is such a magical time on the estate, when the spring flowers are out and the leaves in the woodland are unfurling.
“We will be holding a small number of events throughout spring and summer to invite people to come and enjoy the beauty of the Hall’s grounds and gardens. Keep an eye out on our website and social media channels for more information.”

Sitting in the heart of the beautiful South Staffordshire countryside, just outside Brewood, Chillington Hall and Estate is a hidden gem. With roots back to the 12th century, the Hall has seen hundreds of years of history unfold. Today, the historic estate is home to the Giffard family who are responsible for the conservation of the Hall and Estate.

Chillington Hall offers guided tours of the grounds and parkland, as well as the stately home, on select days throughout the season. Led by knowledgeable guides, the tours provide an in-depth history of the hall, the people who have lived there over the years and the treasures it holds.

Dogs are welcome to join the walk but they must be kept on a lead at all times.

The route through the wood is not paved and is therefore unsuitable for pushchairs wheelchairs or motorised scooters.

Tickets are £5 per person, with free entry for children under 16.
