Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is preparing to recruit new firefighters, giving people across the county the opportunity to join a service that responds to everything from major fires and road traffic collisions to flooding, medical emergencies and animal rescues.
Applications are expected to open over the next couple of months, with anyone interested encouraged to join the service’s free email subscriber list to make sure they are among the first to hear when recruitment officially begins.
Applicants must be aged 18 or over.
There are no postcode restrictions, although successful candidates will be placed where vacancies are available. This means new firefighters could be asked to work at any Staffordshire fire station.
More than putting out fires
Being a firefighter is about far more than tackling flames.
Crews can be called to various emergencies, including road traffic collisions, medical incidents alongside paramedics, flooding and animal rescues involving animals that have become trapped or need lifting to safety.
It is a hugely varied role, with firefighters regularly needing to adapt quickly to situations while working to protect lives and communities across Staffordshire.
The importance of the service has been particularly clear this summer.
Over the past two months, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has tackled more than 1,200 outdoor fires, many of which were caused deliberately.
Crews have attended incidents ranging from major building fires to grass fires and everything in between.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
"We are facing unprecedented demand this summer, where recent wildfires have left a devastating impact on the landscape."
The service added:
"We're continuing to work closely with our partners, including Staffordshire Police, to tackle fires across the county, and arrests have already been made in connection with recent incidents."
"Together, we can protect Staffordshire's amazing green spaces."
