Stoke-on-Trent-based vehicle technician crowned best in the world by Kia

Tom Sharples, a Master Technician and EV Specialist employed by Ken Jervis Kia in Stoke-on-Trent, has been recognised as the best Kia technician in the world after winning the Gold Award at Kia's prestigious 2026 Skill World Cup in Korea. Competing against 41 highly skilled Kia technicians from 40 countries, Sharples claimed the Gold Award.

Having established himself as one of the UK's leading Kia technicians earlier this year, Tom earned the right to represent both Kia UK and Ken Jervis Kia on the world stage, being put to the test through a series of demanding written and practical assessments, covering advanced diagnostic techniques, vehicle repair procedures, component analysis and electric vehicle technology.

The Kia Skill World Cup is a global technical competition designed to identify outstanding global service technicians and enhance overall service capabilities. First launched in 2002, the event has been held biennially as one of Kia’s flagship global training and skills initiatives.

Winners received trophies and medals, along with prize money comprising of $5,000 USD (£3,717) for Gold; $3,000 (£2,230) for Silver; and $2,000 (£1,487) for Bronze. In addition, six participants received Excellence Awards, each with a plaque and $500 (£371).

Commenting on his success, Tom said:
