The North Staffordshire community is rallying together as the Staffordshire Sight Loss Association (SSLA) faces a critical turning point. With a target of £100,000 to be raised by the end of April 2026, the charity is calling on local residents to help preserve a service that thousands call a "lifeline."
A Vital Part of North Staffordshire
In our corner of the world, community is everything. For those navigating the challenges of visual impairment, the Staffordshire Sight Loss Association provides more than just practical help; it provides hope. Current data from the RNIB Sight Loss Data tool suggests there are approximately 17,094 people living with sight loss in North Staffordshire. For many of these individuals, the SSLA is the primary bridge between isolation and connection.
The charity is a dedicated hub for support, friendship, and independence. It serves as a trusted place for families to turn during difficult times, offering everything from social groups to specialist information. However, this vital local service is now under serious threat and could be forced to close its doors for good.

The Challenge Ahead
To continue its mission and keep its doors open, the SSLA must raise £100,000 before the end of this month. If the target is not met, blind and partially sighted people across North Staffordshire may lose access to the specialist, in-person support they rely on daily.
Every donation to the appeal goes directly toward protecting essential services, including:
- Practical advice and emotional support
- Social groups and community connections
- Help with independent living
- Access to specialist information and guidance

A Message from the Heart of the Charity
Suzanne Roberts, Chief Executive Officer of the Staffordshire Sight Loss Association, has expressed the urgency of the situation while sharing the charity's deep commitment to the region.
"Staffordshire Sight Loss Association is facing closure. We provide vital in-person services, support, and social opportunities for people living with sight loss in North Staffordshire. But right now, that support is at risk."
The impact of the charity is best felt through the voices of those it supports. Recent donors have shared their encouragement, including Chrysta Poppitt, who noted:
"Thank you for the essential work that you do and I hope you meet the target and are able to sustain the charity to continue supporting people with sight loss."
