Moorlands residents are being invited to take part in a county-wide tree planting scheme aimed at enriching their gardens and community spaces.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and Staffordshire County Council will be handing out a mix of **hawthorn, rowan, hazel, silver birch, crab apple and whitebeam** trees at Deep Hayes Country Park between 10am and 2pm on Tuesday 17 February.

The initiative has been organised by the **Staffordshire Sustainability Board**, which includes elected members from across the county and Stoke-on-Trent, where relevant environmental sustainability issues and collective projects are discussed.

It is aimed at encouraging people to plant trees in their gardens or, with the relevant permissions, on private land through community groups.

> “Planting a tree is a simple but meaningful act that benefits communities and the environment and this is a great way for residents to make a positive contribution.
>
> “We’re inviting individuals and community groups to come and collect a free tree to plant to enhance their gardens or, with the relevant permissions, on land in their communities. It’s first come, first served so don’t miss out!”
>
> — **Councillor Nigel Yates, Cabinet member for Climate Change and Environment**

Rangers and officers will be in attendance on the day to offer advice on how to plant your tree.
