Visitors to the Ashby Road home can look forward to cakes and bakes, specially prepared by the head chef as part of the community Friendship Café. There will also be the opportunity for residents and visitors to plant herbs that will later be used in the home’s kitchens, bringing them together through gardening, friendship, and food. Resident June Clarke said, > “All the cakes are made right here in the kitchen and are of the best quality. They’re really quite delicious!” The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see Care UK homes across the country host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like. Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
